Here, by revisiting classic game, I want to share with you about some of those game that we probably never played when we were kids. I want to experience the game now and gain more knowledge about the video game history. In this blog, you will also find the information on how to play the game I am reviewing. Word Rescue is a video game that can help kids learn about words. This video game is an educational platform video games that was created for MS-DOS. The game itself was written by a programmer named Karen Crowther from Redwood Games. The game was developed by Redwood Games, but published by a well known company, it is Apogee Software who published the game on March, 1992. For another platform, the game has also release the version for Windows and Mac OS on Steam platform in 2015. In Word Rescue, there are three episodes available to play, just like another games that was released by Apogee Software.
However, this game come with a shareware version where in this version, it is only the first episode that playable. This game also spawn a sequel named Word Rescue Plus. However, this version was not developed by the same company.

Due to the fact that these creatures cannot read, they steal words from books. The reason is that they want another cannot be able to read the book as well.
The player will take role as a young boy or girl and help a person named Benny Bookworm to take back all the words that has been stolen. After the words has been taken back, the player need to match the word with their respective meanings so that Mr. Bookworm can put back the word in the book. In the gameplay, the player need to moves around the screen in platform environment such as in a platform shooter video games. The player need to try to match the word with their corresponding pictures. These pictures are located randomly in the level.

Moreover, the player also need to avoid the Gruzzles and dangers. If the player touch them, it will result in having to start the level over. There are 7 words in total from each level. After all the 7 words are matched, Mr. Bookworm will turns all collected words by the player into a key. This key is needed in order to open the door that will take the player to the next level.
Word Rescue is designed in order the game to be playable by a range of ages, there are three level of the game corresponding to the age of the player. See the summary below. Easy level Can be played by ages 4 - 7. Medium level Can be played by ages 7 - 10. Hard level Can be played by ages 10 and up. It can be a challenge for adults, too! In the game, if the player match the word with wrong picture, the creatures of Gruzzles will appear and bring dangers to the player.
In order to deal with the Gruzzle, the player need to press space bar to ask Mr. Bookworm to pour slime on it. The supply on lime is also limited.
However, it can replenished by collecting slime bucket or completing the mystery words. The amount Gruzzles that will appear will be depending of the difficulty level of the game. The easy level is easy for young players, as there is only one predetermined Gruzzle in the level. The harder the difficulty level, the more Gruzzles will appear in the game. In the game, to reveal the mistery road, often has as many or more Gruzzles as there are words to find and 20 books must be collected. This will makes the game also challenging even for adults. The gameplay is also fun to play, even for adult the game is also challenging to play. For me personally, as a non English speaker, even the medium level of the game I find quite challenging.
