Medieval 2 Total War Stainless Steel Units
- Mar 23, 2015 - So I've seen a lot of people post about how this mod has crashed or won't start for them and they all receive little to no help on it. I want to see if.
- I had the issue with kingdoms.exe not being there when launching 6.3, so I copied and renamed the original medieval2.exe to kingdoms.exe and that worked. The next step of installing 6.4 also worked well.
Finishing TouchesOnce the installation comes to an end you will be presented with a choice: Choose whatever takes your fancy, you can change this setting at a later stage before starting a campaign by running the ‘Run Setup’ short cut from the Stainless Steels short cut menu. Next you will be presented with this option screen, again choose what you want, you can change it later. Choosing one of the AI options is mandatory. Once you click 'OK' your choices get implemented which may take a little while depending on the items selected. Steam specific StuffThe installer now displays the message underneath, you can safely ignore the suggestion regarding the non steam game link, the desktop short cut provided by the installer works just fine: The set up installation will now attempt to start the mod, but if you are new to mod installations for Steam and or have never done the copy rename of the executable then you will be presented with this error message: Unfortunately, the launcher does not use www.twcenter.net, it only detects that the kingdoms.exe required to run the disk version is not present.
This can easily be fixed by following my tutorial here: Once you have run that tutorial simply run double click the Stainless Steel desktop shortcut to start the mod, it is however recommended to install 6.4 first. The original installation of Stainless Steel does not provide STRING.BIN files (which the game references) as these are generated automatically at game start from the TXT files in the data text folder. Unfortunately, the Steam version of the game does not generate these files from the battle, shared, strat and tooltips TXT files.
Included in the www.twcenter.net in PDF form is a folder called ‘text’ that contains these missing files and their original TXT counterpart – simply extract the folder into the mods SS6.3 data folder and allow overwriting of existing files. There is an unofficial fix available which does a good job in reducing errors. It's called Meloo's Bugfix and is www.twcenter.net. Please read the instructions carefully, especially if you apply the patch at a later stage. I made an www.twcenter.net from it which also fixes the text issues (BIN files not generated by Steam). Again, make sure to read the instrucitons in the www.twcenter.net.
www.twcenter.net has a www.twcenter.net where you can post queries regarding problems with the mod. Ive installed this mod at least 4 times in the past.this time im having issues. The installs dont point to the correct folder (always the sega one). So i need to do everything manually, im sure i didnt need to do this before:( Whats the correct path for SS.4? Is it IN the SS.3 folder, or along side it, in the mod folder? Full path would be appreciated mate (pics would be even better):) Also, last time i used your installer for the meloo fix, and it worked all automatic perfectly.
This time i get the 'my product' destination. Obviously this is due to my mistakes before.but a clear destination folder would help massively (more than 'point to main destination folder'). Is it the sega folder, the mod folder or the SS.3/SS.4 folder? Cannot believe i am struggling with this.ive obviously dropped some brain cells over the last 12 months lol. As always thanks for these guides Gigantus, im just frustrated with myself:(. That sounds to me like a faulty installation, are you installing from the torrent files or from regular downloaded files?
In the latter case there migth be corruption in the downloaded files. Didi you install both parts into the same directory? Maybe re-install (after deleting the mods SS6.3 folder) only the the first part (6.3) and then try if the game starts properly. Then try 6.4 and see if it starts and then last the 'meloo fix'. That should point you in the direction where the problem might be. Hi, Gigantus! Thanks for the guide!
I followed this guide to get as far as ive come in installing SS. However, I ran into a problem when Ive done every step and start the game, game does start, which is first for me. However, after I choose a faction and press start game arrow, it pauses for about 5 sec, then goes into loading screen, load all the way just to CTD with no explanation.
I have tried this guide twice, each after fresh install, and it is steam version of M2. I tried installing TATW after i've failed to get SS running, and it worked fine. So I think it's either I did something wrong or maybe I'm misunderstanding some directions??
Did everything you said but all I get is the 'M2TW encountered unspecified error' message and it closes whenever I try and load a game. Also plays Americas music instead of SS music at main menu.
When it asks me if I have Steam version of the game did you say yes or no? EDIT: 'Did you run the SS setup launcher before you attempted to run 6.4?'
Should I do this again before trying to run the game the way you said it? I still have my SS named as 'Americas' because that's how I ran it before this giant ♥♥♥♥ up.
